Dr. Seuss Went to War
Some very brilliant and some also very unfortunately racist cartoons by the inimitable Theodor Seuss Geisel. He apparently had some major, major issues with the Japanese in WWII. I’m not going to post any here because they are extraordinarily offensive, but some of his panels on domestic policy still hold true today.
It’s sad to find out one of your life-long personal heroes had these kind of disturbing and deep-seated hatreds, but I think it’s important to understand the kind of propaganda machine that occurs during times of war and the many ways of dehumanizing and “other”ing the enemy that occur still hold true today as well.
